Joyce L. Miller
First Vice President

Ms. Miller joined Griffin, Kubik, Stephens & Thompson, Inc. as a Municipal Credit Analyst in 1992.  Ms. Miller heads up the Municipal Research Department.  Ms. Miller began her career in municipal research in 1985  at Van Kampen Merritt, a mutual fund company.  Ms. Miller is the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) representative to GASAC, the advisory council to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).  She is the past-Chairman of the former TBMA Municipal Securities Division Credit Committee.  She is past-President of the Chicago Municipal Analysts Society, a constituent society of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA).  She also served on the Board of Governors for the NFMA.  Ms. Miller received both her B.S. and M.A. from Northern Illinois University.

Derek J. Bonifer, CFA
Vice President

Mr. Bonifer joined the firm as a Municipal Research Analyst in October 2000. He is responsible for analyzing all competitive and negotiated issues, creating issuer credit reports, writing topical research reports and monitoring industry trends. He is a member of the CFA Institute, CFA Society of Chicago, Chicago Municipal Analysts Society and National Federation of Municipal Analysts.

Mr. Bonifer graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.B.A. in Finance, and earned his M.B.A., with distinction, from DePaul University with a dual concentration in Finance and Financial Analysis. Mr. Bonifer earned the Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2007.
